Sakshi Malik Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia latest news in Hindi: Olympic bronze medalist former wrestler Sakshi Malik said that last year Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia's decision to take exemption from the Asian Games trials led to their protests against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Sakshi was one of the three main wrestlers of this protest, she has also written about the struggles of her career in her recently released book 'Witness'. He told in this that when people close to Bajrang and Vinesh started filling their minds with greed, cracks started appearing in their protests.

All three had accused former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Sharan Singh of sexually harassing female wrestlers during his tenure and the case is going on in a Delhi court.

After the suspension of the WFI, the ad-hoc committee that took over the functioning of wrestling granted exemption to Bajrang and Vinesh for the 2023 Asian Games trials but Sakshi decided not to do so despite the suggestion of her colleagues.

Ultimately Sakshi could not participate in the Asian Games but Vinesh got injured before the Games and Bajrang failed to win a medal.

In the book, apart from the initial struggles of her career, Sakshi also accused former wrestler and BJP leader Babita Phogat of taking advantage of the protests for her own ends.

Sakshi's autobiography is co-authored with Jonathan Selvaraj. However, Sakshi did not reveal the names of those people who influenced Bajrang and Vinesh.

Sakshi wrote, “Like before, selfish thinking started dominating again. People close to Bajrang and Vinesh started filling their minds with greed. They started talking about getting exemption from trials for sports. ,

He wrote, “Bajrang and Vinesh's exemption from trials did not have a good effect. This badly affected the image of our protest. Due to this, we reached a situation in which many supporters started thinking that we are doing this protest for our own self-interest. ,

Both Vinesh and Bajrang joined the Congress party earlier this month ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections. Vinesh won from Julana Assembly while Bajrang became the chief of the party's National Farmers Unit.

Regarding Babita, he wrote that she described herself as a well-wisher of the wrestlers but she also had a vested interest in this.

She said, “I know that Vinesh and Bajrang's aim was to end the tenure of Brij Bhushan Sharan but I made the mistake of thinking that this was Babita's wish also. She not only wanted to remove Brijbhushan Sharan but also wanted to replace him.'' Babita could not be contacted for comment.

Sakshi told in the book that she could not tell her family about the molestation by her childhood tuition teacher because she felt that it was her fault.

“I couldn't tell my family about it because I felt it was my fault,” she wrote. During my school days, the tuition teacher used to harass me. He would call me to his house at untimely hours to take classes and would sometimes try to touch me. I was scared to go for tuition classes but I couldn't tell my mother. ,

In the book, Sakshi also claimed that her parents took most of her prize money. She also alleged that her family was against her relationship with fellow wrestler Satyavrat Kadian but she decided to marry him.(pti)
