Salah benched for Liverpool’s Premier League clash against Brighton

Mohammed Salah will start on the bench for Liverpool during its Premier League 2025-26 clash against Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield today.

This marks the fifth game in a row, across all competitions, where the attacker has been left out of the defending champion’s starting eleven.

He came on in the 27th minute after defender Joe Gomez suffered an injury. Gomez had provided the assist for Hugo Ekitike’s opening goal just a minute into the game.

The Egyptian winger was left out of the team for the midweek UEFA Champions League win against Inter Milan after his comments to the media about lack of playing time.

Salah had accused Liverpool of throwing him “under the bus” and said he had no relationship with Dutch manager Arne Slot after he was left on the bench for last week’s 3-3 draw at Leeds United — the third match in a row that he did not start.

Salah has endured a sub par start to the season, scoring just four times in 13 Premier League matches. He is due to join the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations after the Brighton game.
