Sangakkara angry over Sam Curran’s ‘U-turn’, demands more strictness from BCCI on foreign players!
IPL 2026 Updates: English all-rounder Sam Curran, who withdrew his name at the last moment before the start of IPL 2026, has come under the target of Rajasthan Royals. Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara has expressed his strong displeasure over leaving IPN on the pretext of injury and then playing T20 Blast as soon as he returned to England. After the team’s defeat in Qualifier 2, Sangakkara urged the BCCI to tighten the rules to curb the arbitrary behavior of foreign players.

Sam Curran had opted out of the IPL citing groin injury, due to which Rajasthan had to hastily include Dasun Shanaka in the team. The surprising thing is that Karan, who claimed to be not fit, has played three matches for his county team ‘Surrey’ as soon as he reached England. Sangakkara expressed surprise at this, saying, “We were told that Curran is out of the whole season due to a serious injury, but I see him playing matches there. It is really disappointing.”
“The rules should be strict, so that franchisees are not cheated
Sangakkara said that whether a player comes or not can be his personal decision, but the contract with the franchise should be respected. He said: If the injury is really serious, we understand. Our team also had players like Adam Milne, Shimron Hetmyer and Kwena Mafaka, who supported the team even when they did not play matches. BCCI currently has a rule of 2 years ban on players who withdraw after the auction, but to maintain transparency this policy should be further tightened.
