Samay Raina has urged fans to show empathy towards viral Bihar-based teacher Sakshi Jha, who took the internet by storm after her infamous “man-hater” remarks on the latest episode of India’s Got Latent season 2.
Jha sparked widespread backlash after saying her life’s goal was to beat her husband after drinking alcohol and revealing that she hated her father in the third episode of the comedy reality show, which premiered on Netflix and YouTube on Friday, July 17.
A day after the episode aired, Raina, 28, took to his Instagram Stories to request people to show the contestant kindness. He pointed out that it was just an episode of the show, acknowledged the challenges of performing on stage, and credited the viral woman for making the episode a success.
“Right now I am seeing all the main reactions to this episode, all on the internet. There are a lot of memes being made by Sakshi as a ‘men-hater’. So, I just have a request for ‘men’, just be kind to her. You know at the end of the day, it’s latent, people come and talk a lot. It would not have been easy to stay on the stage… Do you understand? I am a little bad. Lag raha hai yaar, tumlog usko jyada kuch na boldo,” he said in the video.
It translates to: “I am currently watching all the reactions to this episode across the internet. A lot of memes are being made about Sakshi Jha being a ‘men-hater.’ So, I just have a request for my ‘menz’ – please be kind to her. You know, at the end of the day, this is Latent. People come, say whatever they want, and leave. It’s not easy to perform on stage; people often say random things while joking around. You understand, right? I feel a little bad, guys. Please don’t say anything too harsh to her.”
Reiterating his message, Raina pleaded with netizens to stop trolling Jha and replace hate with kindness, emphasising that she is only human.
He added, “As long as it’s just memes and people are having fun, it’s okay. But don’t forget that there’s a real person on the other side. In fact, this is the perfect opportunity for us to send her love and show that ‘menz’ are amazing people.”
“Sending her love would be the best thing to do. I feel that if Sakshi hadn’t come on the show, we wouldn’t have had such a solid episode. You have to give her credit; she made the episode what it was. So send her love, and spread kindness and compassion,” the comedian remarked.
In a follow-up Instagram Story, he tagged Jha’s profile and wrote, “Sending you lots of love from menz.”
Despite the criticism, the episode has garnered massive viewership across both platforms. It has crossed 23 million views on YouTube and is currently trending at No. 1 on Netflix India.
