Samay Raina Takes Playful Dig at Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s Alpha Box Office on India’s Got Latent 2
Comedian Samay Raina has once again grabbed attention with his trademark humour, this time taking a light-hearted swipe at the box office performance of Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s action thriller Alpha.
The moment unfolded during the latest members-only episode of India’s Got Latent Season 2, where actor Raghav Juyal and content creator Niharika NM appeared to promote their upcoming film Bhai Tera Star Hai.
While discussing the film, Raghav repeatedly mentioned its title, prompting Samay to tease him by saying, “Kitni baar khud hi batana padega. Kaisa star hai tu?” (How many times will you have to tell people about your own film? What kind of star are you?). Raghav responded by pointing out that Alia Bhatt had also actively promoted Alpha. Samay quickly replied with another quip, “Uski bhi nahi chali fir” (That didn’t work for her film either), drawing laughter from the audience and sparking discussions online.
The joke comes despite Samay’s earlier support for Alpha. Before the film’s release, the comedian had booked an entire theatre for his fans to watch the movie and later video-called Alia Bhatt to share the audience’s positive reactions. His latest remark, therefore, was widely seen as a humorous observation rather than criticism.
Directed by Aditya Rawal, Alpha marked the first female-led instalment in the YRF Spy Universe. The film starred Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, with a special appearance by Hrithik Roshan. Despite high expectations and the popularity of the franchise, the action thriller reportedly collected ₹58.62 crore in India and ₹98.83 crore worldwide, falling short of box office expectations. The film also received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, with opinions divided over its storyline, performances, and Hrithik Roshan’s cameo.
India’s Got Latent returned with its second season after a hiatus following controversy surrounding remarks made during the previous season. Samay Raina announced the show’s comeback during his stand-up special Still Alive, and the new season is now streaming on YouTube and Netflix, continuing to feature celebrities promoting their latest projects while delivering the show’s signature blend of comedy and candid conversations.
