Unique game of box office: One name, 4 films – 3 superhits, one became a flop

Interestingly, three of these films achieved resounding success, while one film proved to be a complete flop.

1978’s ‘Don’ becomes a cult classic

Amitabh Bachchan played the iconic character of Don in Don, first released in 1978. Zeenat Aman was seen with him. Made with a budget of around Rs 70 lakh, this film created a stir at that time by earning around Rs 7 crore. Due to its brilliant story, powerful dialogues and memorable songs, this film is still considered a cult classic.

1995’s ‘Ek Don’ became the biggest flop

After this, Don was released in the year 1995, in which Mithun Chakraborty, Sonali Bendre and Jugal Hansraj were seen. However, this film was not liked by the audience at all and flopped badly at the box office. There was controversy regarding the film because the tricolor was shown incorrectly in one scene, which further increased the anger of the audience.

Shahrukh Khan gave a new style to ‘Don’ in 2006

In 2006, director Farhan Akhtar made the remake of Don. This time Shahrukh Khan was seen in the lead role, while Priyanka Chopra and Isha Koppikar were also with him. In the film, the old story was presented with a new twist, which the audience liked very much. Made with a budget of around Rs 40 crore, this film achieved the status of superhit by earning more than Rs 100 crore.

‘Don 2’ also repeated its success

After this, Don 2 was released in the year 2011, in which Shahrukh Khan was once again seen in the role of Don. Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Kunal Kapoor and Lara Dutta also played important roles in the film. Made with a budget of around Rs 76 crore, this film was a success at the box office by earning around Rs 200 crore.
