So he got to know politics from childhood. When Nitish Kumar broke away from the Janata Dal and formed the Samata Party based on the Love-Kush equation, Shakuni Chaudhary became a prominent figure as the ‘Kush’ face. Shakuni Chaudhary served as a minister in Bihar for a long time. It has been almost 35 years since Samrat Chaudhary entered politics. Samrat Chaudhary hails from Lakhanpur, a part of Tarapur in Munger district. Munger district was once huge, comprising Begusarai, Khagaria, Sheikhpura and Lakhisarai. Shakuni Chaudhary’s identity has extended from Munger to Khagaria due to Tarapur. That is, the people of this area consider them as their own. The same is true of Samrat.
Kushwaha by caste, hence Nitish’s choice
Lalu Prasad Yadav’s politics has been focused on Yadavs. Nitish Kumar’s politics started with Love-Kush or Kurmi-Koiri politics. Nitish is a Kurmi and Samrat Chaudhary is a Koiri. Politically, Samrat Chaudhary became a staunch opponent of Nitish Kumar during the Grand Alliance regime. until they are deleted. They were adamant that they would not even open their homes until then. However, as soon as the BJP returned to power under the 2020 mandate, Samrat Chaudhary joined hands with Nitish Kumar like a shadow. The sources of power in Bihar remained firmly in the hands of the Lav-Kush family. Due to this equation, Samrat Chaudhary is still Nitish Kumar’s first choice for BJP’s Chief Minister post.
Samrat Chaudhary spent a long time in politics with the Rashtriya Janata Dal. He was also a minister in Rabri Devi’s government. That is, from the beginning his base was Lalu Prasad Yadav’s party. Now, since 2018, he has been identified as a member of the BJP. After the 2020 elections, when the BJP removed Sushil Kumar Modi from Bihar and sent him to Delhi, the door opened for Samrat. After that Samrat Chaudhary never looked back. He has become an integral part of Bihar BJP. In 2019, when Nityanand Rai was the BJP state president, Samrat was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister.
Clashes with Nitish, then his Deputy Chief Minister
When the BJP became the single largest party in 2020, Samrat was appointed as a member of the Legislative Council by the same party. Even after getting the 2020 mandate, when Nitish Kumar briefly became the Chief Minister of the Grand Alliance, Legislative Council member Samrat Chaudhary appeared before him as the Leader of the Opposition. He became Nitish’s biggest opponent due to sharp and pointed verbal clashes. Subsequently, the association appointed him as the regional president in 2023. When Nitish Kumar signaled his return to the NDA in December 2023 and left the Grand Alliance to join the NDA in January 2024, the BJP chose Samrat Chaudhary as its Legislative Party Leader. Thus he became Deputy Chief Minister. He retained his post even after the 2025 Bihar elections.
Negative due to education…
Samrat Chaudhary was sidelined from politics for some time due to age controversy. As he began his new career with the BJP, his education came into the limelight. The allegation that the degree he mentioned in his affidavit was not valid was also discussed. Prashant Kishor also targeted Samrat Choudhary over the same issue in the last election, but the matter did not escalate and did not affect the election.
