Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold claims to be strong, blows in durability test – ..

News India Live, Digital Desk: The new triple foldable phone, Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold, which Samsung had launched by calling it the ‘most advanced’ and ‘strong’, has failed miserably in a stringent durability test. This device broke into pieces in a bend test by a well-known YouTuber, raising questions on the future of foldable phones and Samsung’s claims.

air released in bend test

Jack Nelson, host of the famous YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, conducted many rigorous tests on the Galaxy Z Trifold like scratch, fire, dust and bend. The most shocking result came when pressure was applied on the phone to bend it upside down (reverse bending). As soon as the pressure was applied, the hinge of the phone broke and black spots spread on the display, which means the screen got damaged. According to Nelson, this is the first Galaxy foldable phone that has failed so easily and miserably in their special reverse bend test.

This is even more worrying because Samsung had claimed its previous Galaxy Z Fold 7 to be ‘strong’ and it had performed well in a similar bend test. This plight of the Trifold shows that this three-fold device, about which there were so many expectations, is far behind in terms of durability.

Fear of dust and scratches

Not only this, the inner screen of the trifold is made of plastic. It leaves marks even on light scratches, meaning things like keys or nails can easily damage it. During the dust test, strange noises started coming from the hinge, which indicates that this phone can also cause problems when it comes in contact with dust and dirt in everyday life.

Experts say that foldable phones have more moving parts than normal smartphones, which makes making them strong is a big challenge. Samsung had claimed to have an ‘armoured aluminum frame’ in it, but tests have revealed that the trifold’s thin frame and antenna lines proved to be its biggest weak link. Jack Nelson on YouTube clearly said that the hinges did not break directly, but the frame was so weak that the phone immediately broke.

The incident raises questions about whether triple-folding technology, which could change the future of smartphones, is still not strong enough for general use.
