SEOUL SEOUL: Samsung Electronics unveiled Gauss 2, the second generation of its generative artificial intelligence (AI) model, at its annual technology conference on Thursday. During the keynote address at the online Samsung Developer Conference Korea 2024, the company unveiled the improved performance of its latest AI model. Highlighting performance, efficiency, and various application possibilities. First introduced last year, Samsung Gauss aims to improve the productivity of workers by facilitating tasks such as composing emails, summarizing documents, and translating content. The aim is to increase work efficiency, Yonhap news agency reports.
The second generation version provides better performance and efficiency in handling different data types simultaneously in the form of a multimodal model that integrates language, code and images. It is available in three different models for different purposes – Compact, Balanced and Supreme.Samsung Gauss 2 supports nine to 14 languages as well as various programming languages depending on the model. The tech giant said Samsung Gauss is already being used across a variety of tasks for company employees, taking advantage of its customizable development capabilities. “Samsung Electronics is committed to developing cutting-edge software, including AI and data analytics, to improve the user experience,” said Cheun Kyung-hoon, president of Samsung Research.
“With three different models, Samsung Gauss2 is already boosting our internal productivity, and we plan to integrate it across products to provide a higher level of convenience and personalization.” Earlier this month, Lin Hong-wen, a senior reporter for Taiwan's Business Today and an expert on the chip industry, pointed to several long- and medium-term challenges at the global and regional levels, which he said are weighing on Samsung Electronics. It has had a huge impact. “The 'rise of China' dealt a direct blow to Samsung,” Lin said in an interview with Yonhap news agency. “China is competing with Samsung in many areas, including mobile phones, panels and memory chips,” he said. “China is replacing imported goods with its own products, and Samsung is most affected by this policy.”
