Samsung Voice Recorder: According to SamMobileSamsung is working on an update for its Voice Recorder app that will add cloud transcription functionality, convert recordings to different formats, enhance storage management, and introduce some UI changes before the arrival of One UI 9.
The update, now under development, will be rolled out within a couple of weeks, possibly along with the next One UI 9 Beta build for the Galaxy S26 series.
Cloud Transcription Promises Better AI Accuracy
The key change to come with the upcoming Voice Recorder update is Cloud Transcription, enabling users to send their voice recordings to Samsung’s servers for AI transcription.
Currently, the Voice Recorder app creates the transcript based on AI algorithms working locally, while cloud processing was only available for generating recording summaries. With the new update, that limitation will no longer exist as the option to use local or cloud processing for creating transcripts will be available.
As per Samsung, cloud-based AI processing is more accurate than local processing, particularly for long recordings and complicated conversations.
Recording Conversion May Add MP3 and WAV Export
The other new function is a conversion tool for recordings. Despite the fact that this feature has not been revealed officially by Samsung, some information has leaked, indicating that users might be able to export their recordings in various formats, including MP3 and WAV.
At the moment, all recordings that are being done using the app are stored in M4A format. The conversion of the files directly within the app might help users share their recordings more easily and edit them on other devices.
New Storage Management Tools Simplify Cleanup
Also, Samsung has developed a new Manage Storage menu for Voice Recorder users.
Just like in the case of Samsung My Files, the tool will sort the recordings into the following categories:
- Large Recordings (For Storage-Heavy Files)
- Old Recordings (Enables Easier Cleanup)
- Short Recordings
- Spam Calls (For Potentially Unwanted Audio Files)
It will be helpful for users to find files that they need to delete to get more space.
Voice Recorder Gets a Refreshed Interface
The update also includes various improvements to the visuals:
- Waveform animation in recordings list: Recordings that are played right from the list will now show a waveform animation rather than a progress bar.
- Settings page looks better: Text that describes each option is now located below the toggle buttons.
- Playback feedback improvement: With the waveform animation, it is now possible to see any audio activity without opening the player.
One UI 9 Integration and Beta Rollout
The Voice Recorder update comes as part of Samsung’s larger One UI 9 update rollout. The Korean tech giant has already updated many of its native apps in anticipation of its upcoming software release that will accompany its foldable devices next month.
Several updates made to the Voice Recorder have been discovered in the latest One UI 9 beta builds for the Galaxy S26 series.

If all the leaked updates come true, Voice Recorder may turn out to be one of the best built-in recording apps available on Android.
