Samsung Will Launch Trifold Smartphone Next Year: Screen That Folds Twice!

Samsung is reportedly working on a new tri-fold smartphone set to launch in 2025, aiming to compete with rivals like Huawei, Xiaomi, and Honor. This innovative device could feature a screen that folds twice, expanding into a larger display. While the project is still awaiting final approval, it highlights Samsung’s continued investment in foldable technology.

Tri-Fold Innovation in the Works

According to a ZDNet Korea report, Samsung Electronics is exploring the release of a tri-fold smartphone alongside an entry-level foldable phone. Industry sources suggest that Samsung Display’s partners have already completed the development of components required for the tri-fold device, which will fold the screen twice, creating a larger tablet-like display when fully opened. This phone would follow Samsung’s recent Galaxy Z Flip and Fold models but offer a more ambitious design.

Samsung’s tri-fold technology has been showcased in prototype devices, such as the Flex G and Flex S, which were earlier revealed but haven’t yet reached consumers. These designs closely resemble rival Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, as well as Tecno’s tri-fold concept, the Phantom Ultimate 2, unveiled in August.

Industry Competition Heating Up

The foldable phone segment is becoming increasingly competitive. Huawei launched the Mate XT Ultimate Edition in China, priced at approximately Rs 2,37,000, setting the bar for tri-fold smartphones. Other manufacturers like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor are also reportedly working on their own tri-fold devices. Honor’s model is speculated to be thinner than Huawei’s offering, pushing innovation further in this space.

Challenges and Market Trends

Despite the excitement around foldable technology, demand for Samsung’s recent foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6, has been lower than expected. Reports indicate a 10% drop in OLED display orders for foldable phones this year, leading Samsung to adjust its production plans. However, the company’s decision to move forward with the tri-fold smartphone could reinvigorate interest in foldable designs.

As Samsung considers its 2025 tri-fold launch, the smartphone market eagerly anticipates the evolution of foldable devices. If successful, this could mark a new era in smartphone design.
