Sanchar Saathi App Announcement: The Government of India has decided to make Sanchar Saathi app mandatory in all new smartphones to strengthen mobile security and cyber security. The Ministry of Communications has directed all major companies including Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo to ensure that the app remains pre-installed and users cannot remove it. This step has been taken to deal with theft, fake connections and mobiles with fake IMEI. The app includes Chakshu and KYM features, which make fake call and IMEI validity checking easy.

Big decision of the government

To further strengthen mobile security, the Government of India has made it mandatory to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi app on all new smartphones. The Ministry of Communications has directed all major companies including Apple, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo that the app cannot be removed or disabled by users. Companies have been given 90 days to include it. This app will be added to the already supplied devices through software update.

What is Sanchar Saathi App and how it helps

The Sanchar Saathi mobile app is an extension of the government portal of the same name, which was launched in May 2023. The app lets users block stolen or lost mobiles and check IMEI validity. Reporting of fake calls, spam SMS or WhatsApp messages is possible through Chakshu feature, which can help in controlling cyber fraud. The KYM (Know Your Mobile) feature of the app can check the genuineness of the phone and the validity of the IMEI.

Government strategy and impact of the app

The main objective of making Sanchar Saathi mandatory is to prevent fake IMEI, clone mobiles and cyber fraud. Wrong IMEI numbers can help in big scams and network abuse. Since its launch, more than 50 lakh people have downloaded the app, more than 37 lakh stolen or lost mobiles have been blocked and more than 3 crore fake mobile connections have been terminated.
