Sanjay Manjrekar ups the ante against Virat Kohli, calls Rohit Sharma’s statement on struggling batter flawed
Sanjay Manjrekar refused to buy Rohit Sharma’s statement on struggling Virat Kohli in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series. Sanjay Manjrekar felt that Rohit commented to avoid adding pressure on his teammate.
Kohli has failed to find a solution for his off-stump weakness against Australia, and the hosts have successfully executed their plans against him. He started the series with a score of five but then amassed an unbeaten 100 runs in the second innings. In the second game, he managed 7 and 11. The third contest was again a letdown, as the veteran managed just 5 in the first essay.
When asked about Kohli’s form, Rohit Sharma expressed confidence in the batter. “You call him a modern-day great and modern-day greats will found out a way to solve issues,” Rohit told reporters.
Sanjay Manjrekar disagreed with the skipper, calling his statement flawed.
“He made a flawed statement to avoid Virat Kohli from taking more pressure. He has to say it as players are not allowed to speak their minds. They think differently but can’t say. I have been a part of that system,” Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo.
Manjrekar said that modern-day greats like Virat Kohli can’t solve their problems themselves. He said if it were true, Virat would have returned to form by now.
“He has technical flaws but he is unable to solve his concerns. If he is not getting input from the team management, the role of the batting coach should be questioned.
“Virat needs help as he hasn’t been able to solve technical problems,” he added.
