digital desk- The mega rally of Nishad Party organized in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh came into limelight when state government minister Sanjay Nishad cried emotionally while giving a speech from the stage. During his address, he raised the issue of alleged injustice and neglect being done to the Nishad community, due to which he could not stop himself and started crying bitterly. Sanjay Nishad said that the rights of his society are being snatched away and they have been deprived of their rights for years. He alleged that earlier governments kept the Nishad community away from education and employment. Targeting Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, he said that these parties did not give the people of his community an opportunity to move forward. He also said that efforts are being made to snatch the votes of the people of Nishad community and the safety of their sisters and daughters is also in danger.

Demand raised to include Nishad community in Scheduled Caste

During the rally, he reiterated the demand for inclusion of Nishad community in the Scheduled Caste (SC) category and giving reservation. He said that Nishad voters play a decisive role in about 160 assembly seats of the state, and the party is now making a strategy to further strengthen its influence on these seats. Politics has also intensified over this entire incident. Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe while sharing the video of Sanjay Nishad crying on social media platform X. He wrote that these tears were of “remorse” or “atonement” for going with the BJP. Also, while referring to the politics of ‘PDA’ (Backward, Dalit, Minority), he said that the public now wants change.

In 2019, alliance with SP was broken due to seat sharing.

Political experts believe that this emotional stance of Nishad Party is also being seen keeping in mind the upcoming elections. It is noteworthy that in the 2018 Gorakhpur Lok Sabha by-election, the alliance of Nishad Party and Samajwadi Party had defeated BJP in a big upset. Sanjay Nishad’s son Praveen Nishad had won that election. However, before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the alliance of both the parties broke due to seat sharing and since then Nishad Party is with NDA. After this mega rally in Gorakhpur, Nishad Party is preparing to organize more rallies to strengthen its hold in the state. The focus of the party is to organize the Nishad community and make it politically effective. This development has given rise to a new debate in the politics of the state, where emotions, social justice and political strategy are visible together.
