A court in Sealdah on Monday, January 20 sentenced him to life imprisonment.
RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: Sanjay Roy, convicted of rape and murder of an on-duty trainee doctor at Kolkata's government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Sealdah court on Monday, January 20.
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das in Sealdah had, on January 18, 2025, convicted Roy of raping and murdering the postgraduate trainee at the hospital on August 9 last year. The mother of a former Civic Police volunteer convicted for a heinous crime said she has no problem if the court hangs him for the crime. CBI demanded death penalty for the culprit.
Before the sentencing, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “We have cooperated in the investigation. We demanded justice but the judiciary had to do its work so it took so long but we always wanted the victim to get justice. “
