Who is Justice Sanjeev Khanna?

Justice Sanjeev Khanna started his legal career by registering with the Delhi Bar Council in 1983. Before going to the Delhi High Court, he used to practice in the district courts at Tis Hazari. Justice Sanjiv Khanna was elevated as Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2005 and became a permanent judge in 2006. He later practiced in several areas of constitutional law, arbitration, company law, commercial law and criminal law.

Some important decisions of Justice Khanna are in the news, in which former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted interim bail, which allowed Kejriwal to campaign during the Lok Sabha elections. He discussed another important issue, in which he said that a major reason for delay in PMLA cases could be the granting of bail. This decision shows that Justice Khanna values ​​democratic participation, as he announced the bail of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in another important case.

Justice Khanna is also the chairman of the bench reviewing several provisions of PMLA. Regarding the delay in PMLA cases, he said, 'If there is a delay, it can be a valid ground for bail.'

Justice Khanna led the bench that rejected the demand for full VVPAT verification of votes cast in electronic voting machines (EVMs). The April 2024 decision approved measures taken by the Election Commission of India to ensure the accuracy and integrity of elections.

Justice Khanna was also part of the five-judge bench that declared the electoral bond scheme unconstitutional earlier this year and upheld the decision to abrogate Article 370.
