Sanjeev Singh becomes Mayor of Dhanbad, defeats JMM candidate, BJP candidate remains at fourth position

Dhanbad: BJP has suffered a big loss in the Jharkhand municipal elections. BJP-backed candidates have lost the seats of Dhanbad and Chirkunda, which have been considered BJP strongholds for a long time. BJP’s rebel candidate Sanjeev Singh has won the mayor’s election in Dhanbad, while BJP’s candidate Sanjeev Kumar stood fourth here.
The defeat of BJP-backed candidate Sanjeev Kumar for the post of mayor in Dhanbad Municipal Corporation and the victory of Sanjeev Singh have raised questions on the organization’s strategy and ground hold. As soon as the election results came out, it became clear that all the efforts made from national to local level failed to woo the voters.

Roshni Khalkho became Mayor of Ranchi, Banna Gupta’s wife won the election in Mango, MP’s son and MLA’s brother lost the election.
Strong campaigning by national leaders also proved ineffective

The party had fielded national level stalwarts to campaign in favor of BJP supported candidate Sanjeev Kumar. Party’s National General Secretary Arun Singh, National Minister Rituraj Sinha and Bihar State Minister Santosh Ranjan held rapid rallies and meetings in Dhanbad. Efforts were made to unite the workers in different wards and to sharpen the issues to appeal to the voters.
In the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation elections, Mayor candidate Sanjeev Singh is ahead of his nearest candidate Chandrashekhar Aggarwal by 24904 votes in the seventh round of counting. Sanjeev Singh has got 79743 votes so far, while JMM supported Chandrashekhar Agarwal has got 68028 votes, Congress supported Shamsher Alam Ansari has got 50750 votes and BJP supported Sanjeev Kumar has got 49948 votes. Before the final results of the election results came out, JMM supported candidate and former Mayor Chandrashekhar came out of the counting center and congratulated Sanjeev Singh on his victory. Sanjeev Singh was declared the winner after the JMM candidate accepted defeat before the official announcement of Sanjeev Singh’s victory.
