Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper/batter Sanju Samson celebrated in the style of legendary Kerala actor Rajnikant after scoring his first century in the CSK jersey against the Delhi Capitals.
Tonight’s CSK Vs DC game is Match 18 of IPL 2026. The match is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and the away team won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Sanju Samson Rajnikant Celebration Blows Chepauk Up
Sanju had not found his touch for CSK this season before this game. Coming into IPL 2026 after being the Player of the Tournament in the 2026 T20 World Cup, he had collectively scored just 22 runs in three games this season so far.
However, he looked in a different colour from the get-go today, hitting his first boundary for the Super Kings in the first over of the game. At the end of the powerplay, the 31-year-old was batting at 45 off 19.
He soon reached his half-century in 24 balls and did not slow down even after reaching the milestone.
While Ayush Mhatre supported him from the other end and ended the night at 59 off 35, tonight was the Sanju Samson show.
The Kerala native went on to score his fourth IPL century and his first for the Chennai Super Kings. He was not out at the end of the innings at 115 off 56.
After reaching the 100 in 52 balls, Sanju Samson pulled out a familiar celebration. After acknowledging the crowd, he pulled off the ‘Padayappa salute’, made famous by Superstar Rajnikant.
Rajnikant needs no introduction. The 75-year-old actor from Kerala is one of the biggest celebrities in the country. Not only has he led several South Indian film industries for decades, but he is also seen by many as a god-like figure.
In Rajni’s iconic 1999 movie Padayappa, he did a salute that went on to become legendary. The same move Sanju Samson pulled off today during his century celebration. This Sanju Samson Thalaiva celebration is something that CSK fans will remember for some time.

The Chennai Super Kings have lost all three games of IPL 2026 so far in brutal fashion. They desperately need a win today if they are to have any hopes of playoff qualification.
