Sanju Samson Rises When It Matters: The Finisher Who Sealed India’s Fate in Style

The man of steel, Sanju Samson, rose to the occasion when India was under high pressure in the final Super 8s game of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

With India staring at a tense finish, Samson turned the tide through fearless strokeplay and calculated aggression, dismantling the opposition’s plans ball by ball.

His match-defining knock not only steadied the chase but also showcased his temperament under fire, sealing a memorable 5-wicket victory for India in dramatic fashion.

Eden Gardens were packed with an audience of 58,000 people cheering the sides, making the Sunday clash an epic one. It has seen many big games and batters who have registered their names in its rich history.

“This is one of the greatest days of my life,” said Sanju Samson after his match-winning knock.

Sunday night was one such occasion, while Sanju Samson was set to bat, he was full of confidence, as India was set to start the chase.

Despite not getting a strike on the first ten deliveries, he did take two deliveries to stay in touch with the ball. However, the game started there when Samson was playing well-calculated and decisive shots.

Despite India being under pressure with 104/3 in the 12th over, Sanju Samson did slow down his innings. But Tilak Varma boosted his confidence as he played a crucial cameo.

Sanju remained unbeaten with 97* runs, where he had 12 fours and four sixes all evening, but the one from Roston Chase’s delivery in the 14th over was seemingly loaded, which made West Indies head coach pace nervously in the dugout.

He rushed in during the drink breaks to talk his players into keeping their heads in the game. However, Sanju Samson could not complete his century, despite the knock being considered his most destructive outing in the format.

Sanju Samson has three centuries in the T20I format and three centuries in the IPL. However, he did not aim for personal stats as his selfless knock was considered the context of the fixture – a loss meant the end of their title defence.

Sanju Samson had a tough time in 2025 and has been in and out during the bilateral series. In the meantime, Ishan Kishan cemented himself as the wicketkeeper and opener in Sanju Samson’s first T20I at his home ground in Thiruvananthapuram.

In Abhishek Sharma’s absence during the game agianst Namibia, Sanju Samson had his chances but could prove nothing much.

In the game against Zimbabwe, Sanju could not convert the start. The fifty in this game says Sanju Samson deserves this victory and a big warm embrace from the rest of the batters who have bailed out.
