Sanya Malhotra’s 10-year journey: Learned to say ‘no’, reveals panic attacks
This year Sanya Malhotra has completed 10 years in the field of acting. He started his film career in 2016 with Aamir Khan’s superhit film ‘Dangal’. She played the role of wrestler Babita Kumari in the film. Even though her screen time was not much, Sanya caught everyone’s attention with her excellent acting. After that he worked in many medium budget films and also made his mark in some commercially successful films. Even in small roles, he did such a good job that people started remembering him.
Sanya Malhotra, who came from Delhi, has made her place in this glittering world of showbiz without any big support, with all her hard work and dedication. But the hardest part of her journey was learning how to say ‘no’. Recently, in a special interview given to News18, Sanya said, ‘I learned to say ‘no’ very slowly. Now I refuse easily. But initially it was very difficult for me. Earlier, whenever I tried to say ‘no’, I used to have a panic attack.
He was most afraid that if he refused any work, he would start getting fewer work offers in the future. Sanya says, ‘I used to think how can I refuse? If I refused, I might not get any work after that and even if I somehow refused, I would feel guilty for months. I was not only afraid of not getting the work, but I was also afraid that the person who had offered me the work would feel bad.
Now Sanya has a clear mantra of her own – be humble but strong. She says, “You should understand that a film director has his own vision. But as an actor, you can also give your suggestions. Sometimes the director accepts what you say, sometimes not. But I have learned the hard way that if I don’t say ‘no’, then I am just fulfilling other people’s dreams. I am not living my life, but living it the way others do.”
Sanya, who worked in the recently released film ‘Toaster’, further said, ‘I believe that there is a right way to express one’s views. If you express your views respectfully and correctly, there is no problem. Especially if any scene is stunt or dangerous, then you should refuse very strictly. These things should never be taken lightly.
Sanya’s co-actress Archana Puran Singh of the film ‘Toaster’ recalls an incident that happened on the sets and says, ‘While working with Sanya during the shooting of Toaster, I learned a very good thing from her. In one shot, she was to be shown riding a scooter, but Sanya clearly refused. I tried to convince him, but later I came to know that he had earlier met with an accident while riding a scooter. Therefore he did not have confidence in driving the scooter.
Archana further says, ‘Because she did not have confidence in herself, she refused politely. She didn’t want to give a bad shot. In the end the production team had to call a body double. At that time I spoke to Sanya and praised her for her confidence and clear refusal. Then he told me that he had learned this lesson the hard way in his career. This journey of Sanya Malhotra shows that success does not just come from good acting, but also from respecting yourself, understanding your limitations and having the courage to say ‘no’ at the right time.
