He expressed deep displeasure over the lyrics of the song. He said that this song is not only objectionable, but also directly hurts the dignity of women. The commission completely rejected the arguments of those who said that they did not know the meaning of the lyrics of the song. Rahatkar said that such excuses cannot justify the wrong effect of the song.
Sanjay Dutt will have to appear
During the hearing, lyricist Rakib Alam, film director Prem and representatives of production house KVN Productions appeared before the commission. He submitted a written apology letter and admitted that the song had a bad impact on the society. He also promised to do some work for women empowerment in the next three months and also assured to submit its report to the Commission. The Commission has also directed Sanjay Dutt to appear before it on April 8, which clearly shows the seriousness of the matter.
Song removed after criticism
As soon as director Prem’s Bayangana was released on YouTube, it got embroiled in controversy due to its obscene lyrics. After much criticism it was removed from YouTube. Director Prem refused to call this controversy a publicity stunt. He told in an interview that this song was made just a light party song. Its purpose was not to upset or anger anyone. Prem also told that he had written the original Kannada version of the song himself, while the Hindi lyrics were translated by Rakib Alam. He admitted that he was not fully aware of all the words in the Hindi version, which later led to criticism.
Liked in South but not in Bollywood
He further said that there was no problem with the Kannada version. This song got good response in states like Karnataka and Kerala. According to him, this entire controversy has arisen due to language difference and misunderstanding of the cultural context. In short, what started as a party song has now reached the dignity of women, censor board, commission action and public debate. It remains to be seen what happens further in this matter.
