Discussion in Assembly on illegal coal mining in Dhanbad
Ranchi: JDU MLA Saryu Rai raised a question in the Assembly on Saturday regarding the issue of illegal coal mining in Dhanbad. He presented photographs of illegal mining to Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, when Chief Minister Hemant Soren was also present in the House.
serious case of illegal mining
Saryu Rai told that illegal mining is going on in Damodar River on the border of Dhanbad-Bokaro, due to which the flow of the river has changed. This has had a negative impact for many kilometers. He said that this mining is being carried out using JCB and other heavy machines. As per the status quo, villagers have stopped getting water from the drinking water project, due to which the local people have started protesting. He has given four recent photographs to the Minister, which clarify the situation of illegal mining.
Questions raised on government negligence
Saryu Rai stressed that when questions were raised on this issue, the department should have conducted an inspection. He also targeted the officials and asked why they were not sent to physically inspect. He said that he himself informed the Deputy Commissioner and Senior SP about this illegal mining, but no action was taken. In this light, he raised the question whether the administration and mining officials were involved in this.
Minister assured investigation
Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, while replying to this matter, said that he has heard the statement given on drawing attention. If Saryu Rai is not satisfied, he will try to seek a report from the department based on specific information. Saryu Rai challenged the minister’s reply, saying illegal mining was extremely obvious and the changing course of the river was worrying.
Chief Minister gave instructions for action
Assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahato gave permission to the minister to investigate. On this Saryu Rai again said that he informed all the concerned authorities, but no action was taken. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren took the matter seriously and directed to take necessary action on the basis of the photographs sent by Saryu Rai.
