Honey Trehan reveals Diljit Dosanjh’s commitment to ‘Satluj’

Satluj’s director Honey Trehan recently shed light on Diljit Dosanjh’s dedication to the project amid the ongoing controversy.

The 47-year-old filmmaker, who earned massive acclaim for The night is lonelyspoke about the actor-singer’s commitment to the biographical drama.

In an exclusive conversation with The PrintTrehan revealed the reason behind starring the Punjabi singer.

Speaking to the outlet, he said, “Had Diljit not been there, this film would not have existed. I wanted an actor who knows that world. I was keen on casting a Sardar because if I put a Bollywood actor in the film, the narrative would suddenly become, ‘This actor is playing a Sardar.’ That would’ve been an injustice to Khalra Sahab’s journey and the people whose pain this story carries.”

Later, the director revealed that the Amar Singh Chamkila actor charged just ₹1 for the film.

Recalling Dosanjh’s reaction after seeing Jaswant Singh Khalra’s photograph, Trehan shared, “He stood up from his chair, touched the script to his forehead and said, ‘Waheguru, how can I charge to play someone like Khalra? It will be shameful.’”

The Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders filmmaker further revealed that Dosanjh agreed to accept just ₹1 only after he insisted.

Trehan’s statement comes after Satluj was taken down from ZEE5 just 48 hours after its release.

For the unversed, Satluj premiered on Zee5 on Friday, July 3.
