Gunther Beats John Cena in His Last Match

On December 14, 2025, one of the most emotional WWE shows of the year took place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., USA. Saturday Night Main Event featured the greatest of all time, John Cena, wrestling his last-ever match in his 25+ year professional wrestling career.

John Cena has requested that on his last show, he wanted to see stars from NXT face current main roster superstars. As a result, during this show, we saw the current WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, facing off against the NXT Champion, Oba Femi. We also saw one of the fast-rising superstars of the NXT women’s division, Sol Ruca, facing Bayley in a one-on-one match. As expected, the main event of this show was John Cena facing Gunther in his last wrestling match.

Saturday Night Main Event Highlights

Cody Rhodes vs Oba Femi

Cody Rhodes vs Oba Femi kicked off Saturday Night Main Event, and during this match, the crowd at the Capital One Arena was on their feet, chanting for both Rhodes and Femi. This match was one of the best of the entire night and lasted more than 15 minutes.

Towards the end of the match, Rhodes delivered a Cody Cutter, as both Rhodes and Femi were on the mat, Drew McIntyre came out and attacked Rhodes, causing the match to end in disqualification.



Bayley vs Sol Ruca

NXT Superstar, Sol Ruca, faced Bayley in a one-on-one match on this show. This match went on for 10+ minutes, and at the end of the match, we saw Ruca delivering a Sol Snatcher. However, Bayley tried to pull off a roll-up pin, but Ruca countered and secured the win in this match via a roll-up pin.

AJ Styles and Dragon Lee vs Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater

AJ Styles and Dragon Lee defended their WWE World Tag Team Championships against Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater. This match was one of the most exciting matches of the entire night. This match went on for 10+ minutes, and towards the end of the match, we saw AJ Styles delivering a Styles Clash to Leon Slater, and with that, Styles and Lee retain their Tag Team Championships.

The Miz vs Joe Hendry

The Miz came out and said that he deserves to be on this show, as he is one of the best rivals of John Cena. However, R Truth came out and said that he knows that he stole Joe Hendry’s opportunity. After that, Hendry came out, and the Miz and Hendry wrestled an unsanctioned match, where Truth was the referee, and both Hendry and Truth delivered a Five-Knuckle Shuffle to the Miz, and Hendry secured the win in this match.

Gunther vs John Cena

In the main event, John Cena faced Gunther in his last match. Gunther made his entrance first and was heavily booed by fans at Capital One Arena in Washington. As John Cena made his last-ever WWE entrance, the crowd went nuts, and everybody was singing John Cena’s song.

Before John Cena entered the ring, he shook hands with friends and fans. After that, Cena entered the ring, and the match officially started. This match was very emotional and went on for 20+ minutes. Towards the end of the match, we saw Cena delivering multiple Attitude Adjustments to Gunther, but he kept kicking out. However, after that, Gunther locked Cena in a chokehold, and with an emotional face, Cena tapped out, and with that, we saw Cena’s legendary professional wrestling career end.
