After winning silver in Thailand Open, Satwik-Chirag ‘Malaysia Masters’ Move away, know what is the reason?
Badminton News: After winning the silver medal at the Thailand Open on Sunday, India’s top men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have decided not to participate in the upcoming Malaysia Masters. After a stellar performance till the final of the Thailand Open, the pair are now managing their schedule carefully.
After being satisfied with the silver medal on Sunday, the Indian pair said that they will not compete in Malaysia. The pair will return for the Singapore, Indonesia and Australia leg of the tour. Reddy said after the match, ‘We are not playing in Malaysia. We’re playing in Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.”
This decision came when Satvik and Chirag He regained his rhythm and confidence during the campaign in Thailand. However, in the gold medal match, they had to face defeat by 12-21, 23-25 at the hands of Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin of Indonesia.
While the first game slipped away quickly, the Indian pair made a strong comeback in the second game. They saved four championship points, but ultimately lost by a narrow margin. Shetty admitted that the pair found it difficult to settle down initially due to the fast pace of the conditions there. Reddy admitted that his confidence had waned in recent months, but felt that his pair were slowly getting back to their best levels.
Reddy said, ‘Except today, the way we played, I think we are getting our old rhythm back. I think we should have more trust and confidence in ourselves instead of playing 50-50 on the court. I think right from the beginning, when we step on the court our confidence is 50 percent. But earlier, a year ago, our confidence was always 90 per cent, but now we are getting that confidence back. I’m very happy with the way we played this week. I think it’s more a mental game than a physical one, but things are starting to go in our favor now. I think sooner or later, very soon we will be a winning team instead of finishing second, but I am happy.”

Shetty also echoed this and cited India’s recent Thomas Cup campaign as a turning point that helped the pair regain confidence in their game. He said, ‘I think at the beginning of the year, we played well. I think we are slowly getting our confidence back. Especially after the Thomas Cup, we felt a lot more confident in our game. Even though we lost today, I think we can move on.”
