What changes will occur?

The annual fee of SBI BPCL Credit Card is ₹499. Earlier, if you spent a total of ₹50,000 in a year, this fee was waived off. Now, from 1 May 2026, this spending limit has been increased to ₹1 lakh. This means, if your annual expenditure remains below ₹1 lakh, you will have to pay the annual fee of ₹499 yourself. This fee will be waived off only if your expenditure is ₹1 lakh or more. For consumers who typically spend less, this change can be challenging.

Changes in late fees

SBI has also tightened the rules on late charges.
Earlier, no late fee was charged on overdue amounts up to ₹500.
Now, overdue amounts in the range of ₹100 to ₹500 will attract a late fee of ₹100.
For outstanding amounts between ₹500 and ₹1,000, this fee has been increased to ₹500.
For outstanding amounts above ₹50,000, this fee will remain at ₹1,300.
These changes will increase penalties for even minor delays. Hence, paying bills on time has become more important.

SBI Card announced this regulation on 29 March 2026. These changes will be applicable across the country from May 1, 2026. The bank explained that these changes have been implemented with a view to improving its internal policies and risk management framework.

SBI Credit Card users are advised to do the following:
Keep a watch on your spending and aim to spend Rs 1 lakh per year on your BPCL card to avail the fee waiver.
To avoid late payment charges, pay the bill in full before the due date.

Effects on other cards

Currently, these changes are said to be mainly applicable to ‘SBI BPCL Credit Card’. These two rules will not have any direct impact on other SBI credit cards. However, consumers need to be careful; Because the bank may also change other rules from time to time.
