Scam in payment of CHC unsuspecting ASHAs

A case of alleged tampering and theft in bill vouchers related to payment of Asha workers has come to light at Behjam Community Health Center (CHC) in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The incident came to light after the CHC superintendent sought bill vouchers from the BCPM over suspicion of irregularities in payment to ASHAs.

According to the information, the lock of the upper floor was shown broken after the bill voucher went missing. However, no other items were stolen, raising suspicions that this was a planned attempt to cover up the manipulation of bill vouchers. This irregularity has reportedly been going on for many years.

On receiving information about the matter, senior officials of the Health Department have formed an investigation team. However, the tendency to suppress such cases in the department has been seen in the past and the findings of the present investigation have not been made public. Some Asha workers have also alleged large-scale rigging in the payment of family planning incentives.

According to him, first money is deposited in the accounts of ASHAs, and later this amount is withdrawn from some ASHAs. When an attempt was made to get information from BCPM in this regard, he refused to provide departmental information. According to the information received, more money is deposited in the accounts of ASHA workers whose work area has a population of around 500, while less amount is deposited in the accounts of ASHAs whose work area has a population of more than 1000. This inequality is also a matter of investigation
