Schedule of first phase of IPL 2026 released, know when will the first match start?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the schedule for the first phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. According to the information released by BCCI, the first phase of the tournament will be played from 28 March to 12 April 2026. A total of 20 matches will be played during this period.

Let us tell you, BCCI said that at present assembly elections are going to be held in three states. In such a situation, keeping in mind the election dates, the schedule of the first phase of the tournament has been released, while the complete schedule will be announced after the election schedule is clear.

Let us tell you, the 19th season of IPL will start on March 28. In the opening match, defending champion Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at their home ground M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

In the first phase, matches will be played in a total of 10 cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. During this period, there will also be four double-header matches, in which the afternoon matches will start at 3:30 pm and the evening matches will start at 7:30 pm.

At the same time, on the second day of the season i.e. on Sunday, Mumbai Indians will play against Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground Wankhede Stadium.

The first double-header of the tournament will be played on 4 April 2026. On this day, in the afternoon match, Delhi Capitals will face Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In the evening match, Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals will face each other at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rajasthan Royals will start their home campaign from Guwahati, where the team will play matches against Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Punjab Kings will play its opening home match at the PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will play five home matches in Bengaluru and two in Raipur during the season. Punjab Kings will play four home matches in New Chandigarh and three in Dharamshala, while Rajasthan Royals will play three in Guwahati and four in Jaipur.

However, a condition has been placed regarding the matches to be held in Bengaluru. The expert committee of the Government of Karnataka will inspect the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on 13 March 2026. Only after this will the stadium be given final approval to host IPL matches.
