School Holiday: Will Chennai schools remain closed today? check latest updates

New Delhi: Following the alert of the Regional Meteorological Department, the KTCC region, which includes Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Chengelpattu, is likely to receive heavy rainfall today, December 19. In most of the areas, a yellow alert has been issued so it is expected that schools in these regions of Tamil Nadu might remain closed today.

However, there has been no official update till now on the school closure. To get confirmation about the school holiday for today students or parents must contact the school administration.

‘Light to moderate rain at a few places (at many places over North Coastal Tamil Nadu and at a few places over rest Tamilnadu) with thunderstorm and lighting at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu Puducherry & Karaikal area’, reads the weather agency daily bulletin.
It further added, ‘Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Villupuram, Cuddalore districts and Puducherry’.

Winter vacation for schools

Due to severe cold climate conditions across the country, many states have declared school winter vacation dates. From January 1 to January 15, 2025 schools in Delhi will remain closed. In Punjab’s winter break in schools will be observed from December 24 to December 31, 2024. Moreover, amid heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir schools up to Class 5 will remain closed till February 28, 2025. And from Class 6 to Class 12 the school will remain shut till February 28, 2025.

However, depending on the weather conditions, the school winter vacation dates and school timings are subject to change.
