Will Delhi, Gurugram schools reopen tomorrow or continue in hybrid mode?
New Delhi: Due to pollution, schools in Delhi NCR have been closed for over a week now. After the Supreme Court asked the air quality panel to make a decision to resume physical classes in schools in Delhi NCR, the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) has ordered to conduct classes in a hybrid mode. The Supreme Court allowed the reopening of schools after pleas were received because of the ineffective online classes.
The petition highlighted that due to online schools children are not able to take the mid-day meal, many students do not have access to proper internet services and so online classes are not at all effective.
The air quality panel has relaxed certain restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) 3 and 4. According to the official notice, clause 11 of GRAP 3, clause 5 of GRAP 4 and clause 8 of GRAP 4 are relaxed and as per it, the state governments in NCR and the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNTCD) must ensure that all classes up to Class 12 and other educational institutes are conducted in hybrid mode where ever feasible.
As the AQI improved to 318 on November 25 the air quality in Delhi turned from ‘severe’ to ‘very poor’. The GRAP 4 measures are still in Delhi even though the quality of air has improved.
