Schools will be closed in many states from 8-13 December, will it be affected in your district too?

The second week of December is not going to be like normal days for schools in South and West India. Due to various reasons, temporary closure of schools has been announced in many states. At some places the bad weather has worsened the situation, at some places the state-wide strike by teachers has brought the classes to a standstill. In some states, holidays have been given in schools due to the election process.

There will be a pause in studies in many parts from December 8 to December 13. Let us know in which states schools will remain closed and what are the main reasons behind this.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh – Holiday due to bad weather

After the passing of cyclonic storm Ditva, the weather of South India has deteriorated considerably. Moderate to heavy rains are continuing in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh. Due to strong winds and waterlogging, it has been decided to keep schools closed in many districts as a precautionary measure.

1. State governments are reviewing the situation day by day according to the weather.
2. There is every possibility that schools will remain closed in many districts next week also.
3. The administration has appealed to the parents to confirm the leave from the concerned institution before sending their children to school.

Maharashtra- studies came to a standstill due to a big strike by teachers

The reason for closure of schools in Maharashtra is not the weather, but a massive agitation by teachers. Teachers and non-teaching employees across the state are on strike for their demands.

1. Classes were completely affected in about 18,000 schools out of about 25,000 schools.
2. The maximum impact has been seen in Marathwada and some rural areas.
3. The situation is relatively normal in Mumbai and surrounding urban areas, but schools are likely to remain closed in many districts next week also.

The government has issued a warning that one day’s salary of the employees on strike may be deducted. This decision has further increased the anger of the agitators. Teachers organizations say that they will continue the protest until all their major demands are accepted.

Kerala- Holidays due to local body elections

The Kerala government has declared holidays in all government and private schools due to the local body elections to be held on December 9 and 11. School campuses will remain closed these days due to election preparations and voting.
