Scoot flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore canceled over technical fault
The budget carrier, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, said the issue was identified on Flight TR497 ahead of its scheduled takeoff at 10 p.m. on Feb. 9 from Kuala Lumpur, The Straits Times reported.
Engineers required additional time to resolve the problem, leading to the cancellation.
Passengers were provided with hotel accommodation, refreshments and ground transportation, Scoot said. Those who opted to continue their journey were rebooked on alternative services where seats were available, while others were offered full refunds.
Flight tracking data from FlightAware showed the aircraft assigned to operate the service was a Boeing 787-8.
One passenger said travelers were informed while on board that there was a problem with the aircraft’s brakes, Malay Mail reported.
He said passengers remained seated on the plane for about three hours before being told around 1 a.m. that the flight would not proceed.
A bus arrived at approximately 2 a.m. to transfer passengers from the aircraft. The affected passengers reached a hotel at about 5:30 a.m. and returned to the airport at 7 a.m. to check in for an alternative flight.
According to FlightAware, the replacement flight landed in Singapore at 12:25 p.m. on Feb. 10.
In a statement, a Scoot spokesperson apologized for the disruption.
“The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
“Scoot sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused and will continue to provide necessary assistance to affected customers.”
