Secret method of growing mint in a pot, just plant it once, you will get fragrant and fresh leaves like the market throughout the year.
News India Live, Digital Desk: Summer season is knocking and in such a situation, mint chutney, mango panna or raita is the favorite of every household. Instead of buying mint again and again from the market, you can grow it in a small pot in your home. You don’t need a big garden to grow mint. Let us know those easy steps by which your pot will be filled with green mint leaves. 1. Choosing the right pot and soil: Mint grows horizontally instead of vertically, so choose the pot wisely. Pot: Instead of taking a deep pot, choose a wide and shallow pot. Make sure there are drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. Soil: Loose and fertile soil is good for mint. Mix a little cowdung manure or vermicompost in normal soil.2. Two easy ways to grow mint: You can grow mint in two ways: From roots or cuttings (Best Method): Take some healthy mint stalks from the market. Remove the bottom leaves and place it in a glass of water. When roots emerge in 2-3 days, plant it in the soil. From seeds: You can also grow it by bringing seeds from the nursery, but growing it from cuttings is more successful.3. Take special care of sunlight and water. Mint is a ‘water loving’ plant, but it does not like too much sunlight. Sunlight: Keep it at a place where it gets 3-4 hours of morning sunlight and shade in the afternoon. Too strong sunlight can burn the leaves. Water: There should always be moisture in the soil. During summer, water twice a day, but take care that water does not accumulate in the pot (Waterlogging).4. ‘Pinching’ is necessary for higher yield. If you want your mint to become dense and bushy, then keep pinching it. Method: When the stalk becomes a little bigger, pluck the top two leaves. Due to this, two new branches will emerge from there and the plant will spread rapidly. Harvesting: By plucking the top leaves from time to time, the plant keeps on making new growth. Benefits of growing mint (Kitchen Gardening Tips) Home grown mint is completely organic and it has stronger aroma and taste than the market ones. It is considered a panacea for stomach problems, digestion and to avoid heat stroke.
