Security lapse in Delhi Assembly: Masked man entered the premises with a car, police is examining CCTV footage.
Delhi . There was a breach in the security of the Delhi Assembly on Monday afternoon when a masked person forcibly entered the premises in an SUV car and left a bouquet outside the Speaker’s office and left through the same route. The officers provided this information. Several police teams, including a bomb disposal squad, reached the spot and conducted a thorough search of the area to eliminate any threat, a police officer said. He said that high alert has been issued in the capital.
Officials said that this car with Uttar Pradesh number entered the assembly complex from gate number two at around 2 pm. According to sources, since it is not the main gate, the security around this gate was relatively low in case there was no assembly session. “The car driver went towards Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta’s office and returned after placing a bouquet near the porch,” a Delhi Secretariat official said.
He said the incident has raised serious security concerns and officials are treating it as a security lapse. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ravindra Yadav reached the spot immediately after the incident. Police officials said that they are scanning the CCTV footage and verifying all the facts, while the search for the accused is on. “Several teams have reached the spot,” an officer said. We are scanning the CCTV footage.
Before this incident, there had been bomb threats to the Assembly during the recently concluded budget session. Yadav, along with other senior officials, viewed footage from several CCTV cameras inside and outside the campus. Police teams have been formed to trace the vehicle and arrest its occupants.
Police in nearby states have been alerted with information about the suspicious car. Meanwhile, forensic experts also reached the spot and started examining the bouquets kept in the assembly premises. The bomb disposal squad and dog squad carried out a thorough investigation to avert any danger of an explosion, while investigators are busy collecting evidence from the spot.
