Security tightened in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, Hindus will worship at the Dargah today

The Karnataka High Court has given permission to perform Mahashivratri puja at Mashak Dargah located in Aland town of Kalaburagi district. Here Raghav Chaitanya Shivalinga is installed inside the Dargah. On February 15, the High Court gave permission to only one petitioner to perform puja. Following the court order, the administration has tightened security at the Dargah site. Police from three districts were deployed. Surveillance is being done through CCTV and drone cameras. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the area.

SP Aduru Srinivasulu said, ‘1000 soldiers and officers from Kalaburagi, Bidar and Yadgir districts have been deployed at Ladle Mashak Dargah in Aland on Mahashivratri. Apart from this, apart from Reserve Force, ASRP, ADR, about 40 CCTVs and four drones have been deployed.

He further said, ‘Today Section 144 or 163 BNS is applicable in Aland city. We have imposed strict restrictions in the Dargah areas. In other non-sensitive areas, some essential shops have been allowed to open today. Non-essential shops have been kept closed. In comparison to last year, this year we have allowed the movement of public vehicles easily. However, vehicles are being checked so that no mischievous elements enter Aland city. The situation is completely under control.

Gurushant Tengli and Siddaramaiah Hiremath filed two separate petitions in the High Court. RTI activist Siddaramaiah Hiremath claimed that the Shivalinga at the dargah site was installed more than a century ago. The High Court had given permission to perform puja two years ago also. After hearing the petitions, the High Court allowed Siddaramaiah Hirseth to perform the puja amid tight security arrangements. Laadle Mashak Dargah Committee challenged the High Court order in the Supreme Court on Friday.

However, the top court refused to cancel the order. The court has also given permission to 13 other people to perform the puja. However, the head of Kadganchi Virakta Math Shri Veerbhadra Shivcharya has not received permission. The reason for this is that he had not signed the petition.

According to the order, members of the Muslim community will offer namaz at the Dargah from 8 am to 2 pm. Hindus will perform puja from 2 pm to 6 pm. Mashak Dargah in Aland houses the tomb of 15th century Hindu saint Raghav Chaitanya. Shivlinga is installed on his own tomb. In Karnataka this Shivalinga is identified as Raghav Chaitanya. The Dargah has been named after the Sufi saint Ladle Mashak.
