Raghav Chadha in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday said, “India’s consumer market is suffering from a big disease called ‘misleading branding’ and ‘false advertising’. When we buy a bottle of fruit juice, it has a big and juicy picture of fresh fruit juice on the front. But on the back of the packaging, in small print, it is written that the picture has been put only for marketing purposes. And our country’s Consumers, especially the youth of the country, drink these drinks thinking that they are healthy and nutritious; but they do not know that they are actually drinking sugar syrup, which can lead to diabetes, obesity and lifestyle diseases…”

Raghav Chadha directly asked the government what steps it was taking to stop these misleading branding and fake advertisements. He said that these big food brands are pushing children towards diabetes and the government should take immediate action. Earlier on Monday, Chadha had raised the issue of internet data. He had said that unused mobile data should be carried forward. Normally, a new data cycle starts after 12 midnight, so the remaining data of the day should also be allowed to carry over.
