Sending email has become more secure… End-to-end encryption in Gmail, data will remain safe with the new feature.
Google has released a major update and announced the extension of end-to-end encryption (E2EE) feature in Gmail to mobile devices. This means that users can now write, send and read secure emails right from their phones, without any additional tools or software.
Through this update, the client-side encryption (CSE) feature of Gmail has been further improved. This is especially beneficial for those companies and organizations that work with sensitive information and want to have complete control over their data.
How will this feature work?
With the new feature, when the user composes an email, he will see a lock icon. By clicking this icon he can activate additional encryption. The message gets encrypted on the user’s device even before the email is sent. This means that no one in between can read it.
If the receiver also uses Gmail, this email will appear as a normal thread. At the same time, people who do not use Gmail can view it in a web browser through a secure link and can also reply.
What is end-to-end encryption?
End-to-end encryption is a technology in which data remains secure only between the sender and the recipient. No third person can access it in between. To understand it in simple language, it is like you send a valuable item locked in a box, the key of which is only with the receiver. Similarly, E2EE keeps the data completely secure.
Which users will get the benefit?
This facility is being made available especially for enterprise users of Google Workspace. Organizations that already have client-side encryption in place can easily use it. For this, the administrator will have to first enable Android and iOS support in his system, only then users will be able to use this feature.
What will change for users and companies?
With this facility available on mobile, users will now be able to manage their sensitive emails securely from anywhere. Earlier, desktop or third-party tools were required for this, which will now end. This update is even more important for companies, because this will keep their data completely safe. Google has designed this feature in such a way that the user does not need much technical knowledge. Without any complicated setup, users can easily send secure emails.
