New Delhi. A very shocking and sensational news is coming out for Indian cricket fans. Former Union Home Ministry official RVS Mani has made a claim about Pakistani cricketers, which has created a stir from the sports world to the political circles. He says that whenever Pakistani players used to visit India, they used to smuggle drugs (supply narcotics) here on the pretext of playing matches.
This statement of RVS Mani has come at a time when cricket relations between India and Pakistan are completely at a standstill and the last bilateral series between the two countries was played in the year 2012-13.
Very serious allegations against Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif
During a conversation in an ANI podcast, the former home official surprised everyone by directly naming two of Pakistan’s legendary fast bowlers—Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif. Mani, who served in the Home Ministry from 2006 to 2010, said, “We had prepared a detailed report in a case involving Pakistani cricketers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif. After this, they were sent back by the Pakistani High Commissioner. These players themselves had confessed that they were carrying drugs with them. This is their old background.”
‘Drug smuggling is Pakistan’s official policy’
The former officer did not stop here, he raised questions on the intentions of Pakistan and called it a collusion between the government and the agency there. He claimed, “Sending consignments of drugs to India and ruining the young generation here is part of an official policy of Pakistan. They are very high-profile people. Many other players of the Pakistani team were also involved in similar activities, whose names were never revealed openly, but there were people present in the entire team who used to carry out this black business.”
Big questions raised on the death of former Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer
In this sensational interview, RVS Mani has again heated up the issue of the suspicious death of Pakistan’s then coach Bob Woolmer during the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Recall that on March 18, 2007, just after Pakistan’s humiliating defeat at the hands of Ireland, Bob Woolmer was found dead in his hotel room.
Mani claimed that Woolmer’s death was not normal, but had a direct connection with this drugs syndicate. He said, “Pakistan’s coach Bob Woolmer had strongly opposed this drug smuggling being done by the players, immediately after which he lost his life under suspicious circumstances. If you connect all the links, the truth will come out. At that time, about 30 percent of the funding for terrorist attacks in India was coming from this drug trade.” After this revelation, a new debate has started in the cricket world.
