New Delhi: Undoubtedly, Slumdog Millionaire was one of the most talked-about films of 2008 across the world. The British drama not only achieved massive success at the global Box Office but also caused mayhem in major awards ceremonies. Now, reports suggest that a sequel to the Danny Boyle directorial is in the works.
According to ANI, citing a The Hollywood Reporter report, production company Bridge7, led by producer Swati Shetty and veteran CAA agent Grant Kessman, has acquired the rights for a film sequel and a TV adaptation of the iconic movie. In a statement, the company stated that some stories stay with us long after the credits roll and Slumdog Millionaire is undeniably one of them.
It is to be noted that the original film was co-produced and co-financed by the UK-based company Celador, which will now collaborate with Bridge7 on the sequel. Further details about the project remain under wraps for now.

Dev Patel made his film debut with Slumdog Millionaire. The movie also featured Freida Pinto, Madhur Mittal, Anil Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Saurabh Shukla, Mahesh Manjrekar, Ankur Vikal and Rajendranath Zutshi in pivotal roles. The storyline of the flick revolved around a teenager from Mumbai’s slums who becomes a contestant on Kaun Banega Crorepati. In a dramatic twist, he is accused of cheating. During his interrogation, he recounts how life events provided him with all the answers.
The film won eight Academy Awards in 2009. It also bagged seven BAFTA Awards, five Critics’ Choice Awards and four Golden Globes. However, it faced criticism for its portrayal of India in a ‘poor’ light.
