Serial killer accused of 11 murders arrested in Punjab, spread terror in 18 months – ..
Police on Tuesday arrested a serial killer in Punjab’s Rupnagar district, who killed 11 people in the last 18 months. The accused Ram Sarup, aged 33 years, is a resident of Chaura village of Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur district. According to the police, the accused first gained the trust of his victim by giving him a lift and then carried out robbery and murder.

- The accused would first rob the victims and perform sexual acts on them.
- When the victims protested or refused to give money, he would murder them.
- Method of murder:
- In most cases, murder was committed by strangulation.
- In some cases, severe head injuries resulted in death.
The murder of the person who wrote ‘traitor’
The extent of Ram Sarup’s brutality came to light when he wrote ‘traitor’ on the back of a victim. The victim was an ex-serviceman who worked as a security guard in a private factory.
How did you get arrested?
- The accused was first caught on August 18 in the case of murder of a 37-year-old tea-water seller at Toll Plaza Modra.
- Revealed during interrogation:
- During interrogation, Ram Sarup confessed to committing 10 more murders.
- Police have so far confirmed 5 of these murders.
Massacres spread in many districts
Ram Sarup carried out his murders in Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, and Fatehgarh districts. Major cases include:
- 5 April:
- A 34-year-old tractor mechanic was beaten to death.
- 24 January:
- A young man murdered in a car.

- The accused was married and had three children.
- Two years ago, his family left him because of his homosexuality.
Addiction and Remorse
- The accused admitted that he was drunk before committing the murder.
- He said that after the murder, he would touch the victim’s feet and apologize because he regretted his actions.

- Police have started examining the CCTV footage of the railway building and other places.
- The investigation has been intensified to confirm the remaining murders and collect evidence.
