Seven AAP MPs are now BJP MPs, Rajya Sabha approves

The number of Aam Aadmi Party members in Rajya Sabha reduced from 10 to three.

New Delhi. Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan officially accepted the merger of seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MPs with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reducing the strength of Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party in the Rajya Sabha from 10 to three. Also, the number of BJP members in the Upper House has increased to 113.

Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Pathak, Vikramjit Sahni, Swati Maliwal and Rajinder Gupta are the seven MPs who have joined the BJP. Now these seven MPs are shown in the list of BJP members on the Rajya Sabha website.

According to sources, on Friday the seven MPs had written a letter to the Chairman of Rajya Sabha requesting them to be considered as BJP MPs after the merger, which has been accepted.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday wrote a letter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman requesting him to cancel the membership of the seven MPs who had defected. Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh said that he has written a letter to Chairman Radhakrishnan requesting him to disqualify the seven party MPs in the Upper House who had recently announced their intention to leave AAP and merge with BJP.

Last Friday, AAP suffered a major setback when all seven Rajya Sabha members left the party and announced their merger with BJP. He had alleged that the Kejriwal-led party has deviated from its principles, values and core moral values.
