A section of Rama II Road leading into the Thai capital of Bangkok has suffered a serious subsidence, causing a pickup truck to overturn and leading to severe traffic congestion.
According to initial reports, the collapse early on Saturday morning affected a parallel lane, where the road surface gave way and formed a large hole filled with water.
The pickup truck traveling through the affected lane lost control as the surface collapsed beneath it. The vehicle plunged into the damaged section of the road and overturned, coming to rest upside down in a water-filled ditch. Emergency responders arriving at the scene confirmed that the driver was not seriously injured and was able to exit the vehicle safely.
According to initial information, the cause is believed to be a leaking underground water pipe or erosion due to water accumulation beneath the road over a long period, which weakened the road structure until it could no longer bear the load and eventually collapsed.
Last September, a massive sinkhole about 30 meters wide and 50 meters deep suddenly appeared on the road outside Vajira Hospital and the Samsen Police Station in Dusit district, central Bangkok.
