NIA tightened its grip on separatist Shabbir Shah, Jammu court approved his remand; Know the whole matter

NIA Remand Shabir Shah: Jammu court approved two weeks’ remand of prominent separatist leader of Jammu and Kashmir Shabbir Shah. NIA presented him in Jammu court this morning. After getting the remand, NIA arrested Shabbir Shah from judicial custody. This arrest of Shabbir Shah took place in a case of July 17, 1996.
Earlier on Friday, NIA had got Shah’s three-day transit remand after his appearance in Patiala House Court. After this NIA presented Shah in Jammu court. Now two weeks’ remand has been granted here. Meanwhile, family members have confirmed Shah’s arrest and also said that they have not been able to talk to Shabbir after the incident.

First bail then arrest

Shabbir Shah was granted bail by the Supreme Court on March 12, 2026 in another NIA case. After this, on March 28, 2026, Shah was granted bail in the money laundering case.
Along with this, the Supreme Court had granted bail in the terror funding case on March 12. In this case, NIA arrested Shah on June 4, 2019. However, on September 4, the Supreme Court had refused to grant interim bail to Shah in this case.

Allegations of anti-national activities

Shabbir Shah is accused of anti-national activities. Earlier, the High Court had refused to grant bail citing the possibility of illegal work and influencing witnesses. Shah is accused of promoting separatist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. There are also allegations of inciting the common people to raise separatist slogans from Jammu and Kashmir, paying tribute to the terrorists killed in the valley as martyrs, taking money through hawala and being involved in cross-LoC activities.

History of separatist activities

Separatist activities spread rapidly in Kashmir since the 90s. Pakistan-backed separatist activities and terrorism were posing serious challenges to the internal security of the country. After this, the Indian Army cracked down on separatist groups and terrorists through laws like UAPA with Operation Rakshak.

After the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and creation of Union Territory, the separatist group in the valley is now counting its last breaths.
