Shadow of fixing on T-20 World Cup 2026, ICC starts investigation into Canada vs New Zealand match
News India Live, Digital Desk: The dark shadow of fixing in the T-20 World Cup 2026 has shocked cricket lovers. ICC’s anti-corruption unit has put a group stage match played between Canada and New Zealand in Chennai under the scanner. At the center of the allegations is an over by Canadian captain Dilpreet Bajwa and the board’s alleged interference in team selection. What is the whole matter? CBC’s documentary claims that during the match against New Zealand, some incidents took place that raise questions about the integrity of the game: Questionable overs: When New Zealand were struggling at 35/2, captain Dilpreet Bajwa himself took charge of the bowling. He started his over with a no-ball and then a wide down the leg side, and ultimately conceded 15 runs in that over. This same over has now been kept under ICC investigation. Audio clip revealed: A 58-minute audio recording has also surfaced, in which board members can allegedly be heard giving instructions on team selection by bookies. Pressure from the coach: Former coach Khurram Chauhan had also alleged that senior members of the board had put pressure on him to include certain players in the team. ICC’s response ICC’s Interim General Manager of the Integrity Unit, Andrew Fgrave, has confirmed. That ACU is aware of the allegations made in this documentary and is thoroughly investigating them. “Wherever the dignity of the game appears to be at risk, we will investigate under our standard procedures,” he said. Cricket Canada’s administrative crisis This is not the first time Cricket Canada has been in controversy. The appointment and subsequent removal of former CEO Salman Khan last year (following allegations of theft and fraud) had already tarnished the board’s image. Apart from this, there was also a huge delay in the players getting the prize money of the 2024 World Cup. What will happen next? If the investigation finds strong evidence of fixing, then not only can the players concerned be banned for life, but the ICC can also take a strict decision on the recognition of Cricket Canada.
