Rest of PTI leaders in jail, Qureshi out… Is Imran Khan’s script being written in Pakistan?

Pakistan News In Hindi: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has received relief from the court in another case related to the May 9, 2023 violence. Lahore’s Anti-Terrorism Court acquitted him while many other big leaders of PTI have been sentenced to severe punishment in the same case. After this decision, the stir in Pakistan’s politics has once again intensified.

The Anti-Terrorism Court delivered its verdict in a case related to the May 9 violence in which there was an allegation of vandalism at the gate of the residence of government officials. The court found Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmood-ul-Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhary and Omar Sarfaraz Cheema guilty in this case and sentenced them to 10 years each. Whereas Shah Mahmood Qureshi was acquitted of all charges. This decision was given by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Manjar Ali Gul.

Discussion intensifies regarding Shah Mahmood Qureshi

A total of 33 accused were prosecuted in this case and statements of 41 witnesses were recorded before the court. The court acquitted 13 accused, while sentenced 8. However, the biggest discussion is about the relief given to Shah Mehmood Qureshi because earlier on July 22, 2025, he had been acquitted in another case related to May 9. In that decision also many PTI leaders were given long sentences but Qureshi was acquitted.

Court decisions deepened suspicion

After getting relief in two consecutive cases, questions are being raised in political circles whether this is just the result of the legal process or is there some political strategy working behind it. Especially when, a few days ago, news had come out that some people associated with the government had gone to meet Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The court decisions that came after these meetings have further deepened the suspicion.

Is a script being written about Imran Khan?

PTI supporters and leaders close to Imran Khan allege that the current ruling establishment is trying to completely isolate Imran Khan. He claims that Shah Mahmood Qureshi is considered a ‘safe option’ within the party. The strategy is being adopted so that PTI’s politics can be controlled in future. However, there has been no official statement on these allegations from the government or Qureshi.

It is noteworthy that after the arrest of Imran Khan by Rangers from the Islamabad High Court complex on May 9, 2023, violent protests broke out across Pakistan. Many military establishments and government properties were damaged during these demonstrations. After this, large scale cases were registered against PTI leaders and workers and strict action was taken. Now the continuous relief Shah Mahmood Qureshi is getting has given rise to new questions and debates in the politics of Pakistan.
