Shah Rukh Khan faces heat over Mustafizur Rahman: In recent times, the atmosphere in India has also become heated regarding the alleged atrocities against the Hindu community in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, protests have intensified regarding the participation of Bangladeshi players in IPL 2026. Bangladesh’s only player Mustafizur Rahman has been included in their team by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), after which this matter has taken the form of political debate.
After Mustafizur’s entry, KKR co-owner and Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan has also come under criticism. While some political parties are strongly opposing this decision, opposition leaders and other parties have defended Shahrukh Khan, calling it an unnecessary controversy.
BJP and Shiv Sena demanded removal of Mustafizur
Some leaders of BJP and Shiv Sena have objected to Mustafizur Rahman playing in IPL, citing alleged atrocities on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. He says that in the current situation, including any Bangladeshi player in IPL gives a wrong message. Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde said his party will seek intervention from the IPL Governing Council and BCCI on the issue.
BJP leader Sangeet Som strongly criticized this decision and said that in view of the incidents happening against Hindus in Bangladesh, buying players from there is against the national interest. He also made sharp remarks on Shahrukh Khan, which further intensified the political rhetoric.
Congress leader supported Shahrukh Khan
Meanwhile, Congress leader Bhai Jagtap supported Shahrukh Khan and said that the actor is being targeted because of his religious identity. Terming it as the “double policy of BJP-RSS”, he said that India still plays cricket with Pakistan, hence it is not appropriate to raise this issue selectively. Jagtap also clarified that Shahrukh Khan has no direct role in the player selection process.

Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh also reacted to this controversy and said that it is not right to politicize every issue. He raised the question that what will be achieved by targeting Shahrukh Khan. Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi also raised questions on this entire controversy. He said that the player who has been included in the team has no direct connection with any kind of violence and such controversies are being created to spread hatred in the society.
