Shahid Afridi’s statement about Rohit and Virat came from across the border Gujarati
Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has clearly said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should definitely play till 2027 ODI World Cup. He targeted the efforts to exclude Rohit and Virat from the ODI team and said that these two players are the backbone of Team India. He also took aim at Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir and said that Gambhir cannot always be right.
Rohit and Virat’s support
Shahid Afridi said, “It is true that Virat and Rohit are the backbone of the Indian batting line-up. Seeing the way they played in the recent ODI series, it can be said with full confidence that both of them are capable of playing till the 2027 World Cup.
He further said, “You have to protect these two star players. When India is playing against a weak team, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma can be rested and new players can be given a chance.”
Rohit broke Chagga’s record, Afridi happy
Till recently, Shahid Afridi held the record for hitting most sixes in ODI cricket. He had hit 351 sixes in his career. Rohit Sharma has now overtaken him in this list with 355 Chaggas.
Shahid Afridi said on his sixer’s record being broken, “Records are made to be broken, and now this record has been broken. I am happy that the player I admire has broken my record.” The record of fastest century was in my name for almost 18 years, but eventually it was broken. One player makes a record, another player comes and breaks it. This is the meaning of cricket.”
