Shameful action of cricketers… Two players arrested, video made of female doctors taking bath

Colombo: A shameful incident has come to light in Colombo, in which two young players of Sri Lanka’s Under-19 cricket team were caught violating the privacy of women in a hotel. In a private hotel in Narahenpita area, these players are accused of secretly recording a video of female doctors taking bath in the bathroom using mobile phones.

According to the police, several women doctors were staying in the hotel for a professional conference. On the complaint of these women, Narahenpita police immediately took action and arrested both the young cricketers. Investigation revealed that the accused took advantage of small cracks and open spaces in the bathroom. Police are also investigating whether these videos have been shared anywhere on the internet. It is reported that these players had also recorded a secret video of some men in the hotel.

Both the accused were produced before the Colombo Magistrate Court, where they were released on personal bail of Sri Lankan rupees 5 lakh each. The next hearing of the case is scheduled for May 25.

Crisis on Sri Lanka Cricket Board

This incident has come at a time when Sri Lankan cricket is already going through a serious crisis. Recently, all the board officials and executive committee members including former Sri Lanka Cricket Board President Shammi Silva resigned en masse. After this, the government has taken over the administrative control of the board and a 9-member interim transformation committee has been formed, which also includes the name of former veteran cricketer Kumar Sangakkara.

The history of Sri Lankan cricket has been full of such controversies. All-rounder Danushka Gunathilaka was accused of rape during the 2022 T20 World Cup, while former captain Tillakaratne Dilshan has also been surrounded by allegations of sexual harassment.

This latest incident could prove to be further damaging to the image of Sri Lankan cricket even though young players are expected to conduct themselves better. Police investigation is ongoing.
