Shan Masood Set to Retain Captaincy for Pakistan’s Test Series Against England

Shan Masood of Pakistan is expected to continue as captain for the forthcoming home Test series against England, and Babar Azam will undoubtedly continue as captain of the white-ball side when the team travels to Australia and South Africa later in the year.

The Pakistan Cricket Board selectors are anticipated to declare the Test squad following Sunday’s Champions Cup final. England is scheduled to come in Pakistan on October 3 for a three-Test series that will begin in Multan on October 7.

To determine the strategy for the England series, Masood, who has led Pakistan to defeat in all five Test matches, will meet this week in Faisalabad with head coach Jason Gillespie and national selectors Muhammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq.

When England last visited Pakistan in the 2022–2023 season, they crushed the Babar Azam–led team 3-0.

Not many changes are anticipated in the Test team that lost the series 0-2 against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, according to a source.

“While white-ball head coach, Gary Kirsten has identified some new young players from the Champions Cup for T20 and ODI sides, Gillespie and high-performance coach, Tim Nielsen, have still not made up their mind on any new probables for the Test series against England,” he stated.

The source further stated that while Shan, Babar, Saud Shakeel, Abdullah Shafique, Salman Ali Agha, Muhammad Rizwan, Kamran Ghulam, and Muhammad Huraira were all expected to be selected, there was not going to be much of a change in the batting order.

“The selectors are considering the inclusion of some new spinners for the three-match series but first it has to be decided what sort of pitches would be prepared in Multan and Rawalpindi (the venues for the three Tests),” said a source.

Pakistan had lost the home series against Australia, England and Bangladesh since 2022 and narrowly managed to draw the series against New Zealand.
