Shane Watson warns Australia: ‘Don’t trigger Virat Kohli, he’s a superhuman’

Shane Watson has warned Australia from Virat Kohli, urging the host nation not to trigger the Indian batter during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Watson mentioned that Virat hasn’t been able to score runs heavily in the past few years, and sledging could bring out the best in him.

The legendary all-rounder feels that Kohli could return to his run-scoring spree, considering that he likes batting on Australian soil. He has amassed 1352 runs, including six hundreds and four fifties, in Australia.

“The fire inside him is still burning, and he gives his all in a game. He is a superhuman, but there have been moments when he has been found wanting, as it is hard to maintain that intensity,” Shane Watson said on the Willow Talk Podcast.

“Australian team needs to leave him alone and hope he doesn’t bring his intensity into play. If he is able to bring that, he will at his best. But if the intensity is not there, you don’t see the best version of Virat Kohli,” he added.

Former India player Sunil Gavaskar has also warned the Aussies from the star batter, saying that he will be hungry for success after an ordinary series against New Zealand.

“He will bat with that extra confidence, having done well in Australia in the past,” he said.

The first Test of the five-match series will start on November 22 in Perth.
